Help with odd jobs
TV mounting, smart home setup, small fixes and the jobs that do not fit a trade. On Taskovery we call them Side Quests. Post it once and verified local helpers can answer.
Plenty of jobs are not plumbing, electrical or building. Mounting a TV, setting up a smart doorbell, putting up a shelf, hanging pictures, or getting an extra pair of hands for a day all count.
If your job turns out to need a licensed trade, such as new wiring for that TV or a gas appliance, the right person will say so, and you can post it under that trade instead.
What a Side Quest can be
- Mounting TVs, shelves, mirrors and pictures
- Smart home, Wi-Fi and device setup
- Small repairs and adjustments around the house
- Lock changes and new keys, by someone qualified for it
- An extra pair of hands for a project or an event
What to put in your job post
- Exactly what you want done, and a photo
- Anything that needs buying, and who buys it
- How long you think it will take
- Your walls, if anything is going on them
- When you need it done
License rules and checks, by country
Most odd jobs need no license, but a few that look small do.
- Electrical and gas: Anything that means new wiring, a new outlet or a gas connection is regulated work in all six countries. Post it under Electrical or Plumbing instead.
- Locks: Locksmiths are licensed in some US states and Australian states. Ask about it, and check the license where your area requires one.
Whatever the rules, look the number up yourself on the regulator’s own site rather than following a link the contractor sends. How to check a license and insurance walks through it.
How pricing works
Odd jobs are usually charged by the hour, often with a minimum, or as a fixed price for something well defined, such as mounting a TV. Bundle several small jobs into one visit to make the minimum worth it.
Our handyman guide has published hourly rates by country, which are a fair guide for most odd jobs.
How it works on Taskovery
- Post the job for free. Say what needs doing, where, and when. Photos help more than anything else.
- Hear from verified contractors. Only contractors whose checks have passed can answer: a government photo ID, plus a business registration for a company or a proof of address for a sole trader. It is not a criminal background check and we do not check insurance, so ask for those yourself when the job calls for them.
- Choose who does it. Compare replies, profiles and past work, and pick the person you want.
- Pay them directly. You agree the price with the contractor and pay them, not us. Customers never pay Taskovery anything.

Any small job that does not belong to one of the other eleven trades on Taskovery: mounting, setting up, assembling, fixing, or simply an extra pair of hands.
What if my job needs a licensed trade?
Post it under that trade instead, such as Electrical or Plumbing, so licensed people see it. A helper who finds the job needs a license should tell you.
