How we research our guides
The guides on our blog are written and checked by the Taskovery editorial team. This page explains where their facts come from, so you can decide how far to rely on them.
Written for six countries
Taskovery runs in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, so every guide is written for all six. Where the rules differ, we say so country by country. Where something only applies in one place, we label it.
Where the facts come from
Official sources first. License rules, registers and safety advice come from the regulator, the register or the government agency that owns them, and we link to it so you can check it yourself. Examples include state and provincial licensing boards, the Gas Safe Register, Safe Electric, the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, and the Electrical Workers Registration Board.
Prices from published guides, with a date. We do not invent prices. Price tables come from cost guides published by established home-services sites, and we open each source page to read the figure ourselves before we use it. Every table names its sources and when we checked them. Where we cannot find a reliable published figure for a country, we say so instead of guessing.
Comparing other sites
When a guide compares Taskovery with another site, the facts about that site come from its own pages, and we describe what Taskovery charges in the same terms. Nobody pays to be mentioned, and nobody pays to be left out.
What we do not do
- We do not publish paid or sponsored articles.
- We do not use affiliate links.
- We do not write reviews of contractors. Reviews on Taskovery come only from customers who hired that contractor for a completed job.
What a guide is, and is not
A guide is general information to help you hire well. It is not legal, financial or safety advice for your situation. For anything that could hurt someone, such as gas, electricity or structural work, follow the regulator and use a licensed professional.
Contractors on Taskovery are verified before they can answer a job: a government photo ID, plus a business registration for a company or a proof of address for a sole trader. That is not a criminal background check, and we do not check insurance. Exactly what verification covers.
Updates and corrections
Every guide shows the date it was published, and the date it was last updated when it has changed. If you think something is wrong or out of date, email help@taskovery.com with the page and what you found. We check it, fix what is wrong, and update the date.
