Appliance repair
Washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers and ovens. Post the brand, model and fault once and verified local technicians can answer.
A repair is worth it more often than people think, and the model number decides most of it: whether parts exist, what they cost, and whether a technician has seen the fault before.
If the appliance is still under warranty, call the manufacturer first. Our guide to same day appliance repair covers what to check before anyone visits.
What appliance technicians on Taskovery do

What to put in your job post
- The brand and model number, from the label or plate

- How old the appliance is, and whether it is under warranty
- Whether it runs on gas or is hardwired
- Where it is, and whether it needs moving to reach
License rules and checks, by country
Appliance repair itself is mostly unlicensed, but the gas, wiring and refrigerant behind some appliances are not.
- Gas appliances: Gas ovens, cooktops and dryers must be connected and repaired by someone licensed for gas: Gas Safe registered in the United Kingdom, a Registered Gas Installer in Ireland, a registered gasfitter in New Zealand, and someone licensed for gas work under your state, province or territory’s rules in Australia, the United States and Canada.
- Hardwired appliances: Wiring a new circuit or a hardwired appliance is electrical work for a licensed electrician.
- Refrigerant: Work on the sealed refrigerant system of a refrigerator or freezer needs EPA certification in the United States and a refrigerant handling license in Australia.
Whatever the rules, look the number up yourself on the regulator’s own site rather than following a link the contractor sends. How to check a license and insurance walks through it.
How pricing works
Technicians usually charge a call-out or diagnostic fee, then parts and labor. Many will credit the diagnostic fee against the repair if you go ahead.
Ask for the diagnosis and the full price before the repair starts, so you can weigh it against replacement.
How it works on Taskovery
- Post the job for free. Say what needs doing, where, and when. Photos help more than anything else.
- Hear from verified contractors. Only contractors whose checks have passed can answer: a government photo ID, plus a business registration for a company or a proof of address for a sole trader. It is not a criminal background check and we do not check insurance, so ask for those yourself when the job calls for them.
- Choose who does it. Compare replies, profiles and past work, and pick the person you want.
- Pay them directly. You agree the price with the contractor and pay them, not us. Customers never pay Taskovery anything.

Questions
Questions people ask about appliance repair
Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
It depends on the age of the appliance, the price of the part and the labor. Get the diagnosis and the full repair price first, then compare it with a new one, including installation and taking the old one away.
Will a repair affect my warranty?
It can. If the appliance is under the manufacturer’s warranty, call the manufacturer before booking anyone else.
Who can repair a gas oven?
Only someone licensed for gas work where you live. A general technician can repair the electrical parts of some gas appliances, but not the gas side.
