Rubbish and junk removal
House clear-outs, old furniture, mattresses, green waste and building rubble. Post a photo of the pile once and local removalists can answer.

Rubbish removal is priced by how much there is and what it is, so a photo of the pile does more than any description. What happens to it afterwards matters too, because in some countries the person who hands over the waste can be fined if it is dumped.
For landlords and tenants at the end of a lease, our guide to junk removal for a rental property covers the order to do things in.
What removalists on Taskovery do
- House and garage clear-outs
- Old furniture, mattresses and appliances
- Green waste and garden rubbish
- Building and renovation rubble
- End of tenancy clear-outs
What to put in your job post
- Photos of everything that needs to go
- Roughly how much: a car boot, a trailer, a truck
- What it is, especially anything heavy, wet or hazardous
- Where it is: stairs, a garage, the street
- Whether anything is good enough to donate or sell
License rules and checks, by country
Who may carry waste, and where it may go, is regulated differently in each country.
- United Kingdom: Anyone carrying waste must be registered, and householders have a duty of care to use a registered carrier. In England, check the Environment Agency register; Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland keep their own.
- Ireland: Waste collectors need a waste collection permit. Ask to see it before anything is taken away.
- Australia and New Zealand: Rules on dumping and recycling are set by your council and state or region. Removing asbestos is licensed work beyond small quantities, so use a licensed asbestos removalist.
- United States and Canada: Rules vary by state, province and city. Paint, batteries, chemicals and electronics usually have separate disposal rules.
Whatever the rules, look the number up yourself on the regulator’s own site rather than following a link the contractor sends. How to check a license and insurance walks through it.
How pricing works
Most removalists price by volume, from a single item to a full truck, with extra charges for heavy material such as rubble or soil, for mattresses and appliances, and for stairs.
Ask what is included in the price, including the disposal fees, and where the waste is going.
How it works on Taskovery
- Post the job for free. Say what needs doing, where, and when. Photos help more than anything else.
- Explore local advertisements. Compare business profiles and past work. Advertising is paid placement, not a guarantee of skill or quality. Check the licences and insurance needed for your job.
- Choose who does it. Compare replies, profiles and past work, and pick the person you want.
- Agree the work and pay directly. Confirm the scope, price, timing and payment terms with the contractor. Customers pay contractors directly; Taskovery does not hold new-job payments.

Questions
Questions people ask about rubbish removal
What can a rubbish removalist not take?
Usually hazardous waste: asbestos, chemicals, gas bottles, and sometimes paint and batteries. Asbestos needs a licensed asbestos removalist. Say what you have in the post so nobody arrives unable to take it.
Do they recycle or donate?
Many sort what they collect, and some donate furniture in good condition. Ask, and say if you would like that.
How is the price worked out?
Mostly by volume and by what the rubbish is. A photo with something for scale gets you a much closer price than a description.
Got a pile that needs to go?
